Bluetti EB55 Power Station Review

Bluetti EB55 Overview

The first thing I noticed at the start of this Bluetti EB55 Power Station Review was a visually appealing and feature-rich portable power station, making it a versatile solution for those seeking reliable power for their favorite gadgets. It transcends the conventional image of a mere black (or blue) box with plug sockets. Boasting a substantial 537Wh capacity and a robust 700W output from its integrated LifePo4 battery, the Bluetti EB55 has the capability to simultaneously charge up to 11 devices.

The power inputs and outputs are efficiently managed by an onboard computer-controlled charging system. This sophisticated system not only ensures safety by guarding against overcharging and over-discharging but also maximizes the utilization of every watt of power. The result is an optimized performance that allows users to extract the best possible efficiency from the battery.

Charging the Bluetti EB55

Bluetti EB55 Power Station Review

The Bluetti EB55 not only boasts an impressive full recharge time of under 2 hours but also possesses the capability to recharge your MacBook Air in the same swift timeframe, thanks to its built-in PD3.0 100W port. If you own a wireless charging-compatible phone, simply place it on top of the EB55 for hassle-free charging – no cords required. Whether you’re at the beach powering your Bluetooth speaker, preparing lights for dusk, or giving an energy boost to your rolling powered cool box, the Bluetti EB55 offers versatile functionality.

With four distinct charging methods, the Bluetti EB55 ensures you always have a convenient way to power up. If you opt for the solar panel add-on, harnessing the sun becomes one of these methods, accepting a range of 12-28 volts and up to 200 watts. Stay charged on the move by utilizing the included cigar lighter plug, connecting to your vehicle’s electrical system, or use the provided mains adaptor to recharge at home, in a cafe, or at a site with an electric hookup. Additionally, the onboard computer adeptly manages the power supply from a petrol or diesel generator.

Bluetti EB55 Performance

Now, let’s delve into the specifics. In our Bluetti EB55 review, the power station effortlessly brought my 700-watt rated sandwich toaster to the desired temperature. The EB55 showcased an initial output power of 731 watts during the approximately five-minute heat-up phase, gradually settling to 701 watts over the next five minutes as the unit reached its operational temperature, prompting the heating element to turn off. So, what’s the verdict? Whether it’s grilling sandwiches or whipping up waffles in the wilderness, the Bluetti EB55 handles the task with ease.

The Bluetti EB55 excels not only in more demanding tasks but also in less intensive activities. Throughout a workday, I managed to toast sandwiches, power my MacBook Pro, and charge two smartphones without breaking a sweat. Now, all that’s missing is a van. The only downside is the relatively audible fan, which mildly disrupts the tranquil surroundings during operation. Interestingly, the fan is not only active when baking waffles but also during lighter loads. I made a note in my review at 131 watts input and 60 watts output regarding the fan noise.

While charging the power station, we encountered a slight limitation. Despite Bluetti’s claim that the EB55 can charge at up to 400 watts, the included power supply reached a maximum of 213 watts in our review. The remaining 187 watts can only be achieved through a connected solar panel or via the cigarette lighter, where the same connection is employed in each scenario.

Speaking of the solar module: Unfortunately, we couldn’t fully utilize the Bluetti SP200 during the review period due to a lack of unobstructed midday sun. The slightly hazy blue sky still managed to yield 137 watts of charging power, just below 70 percent of the maximum. Even on July 6 at 1:00 p.m. with lightly veiled clouds, the power station with a solar panel achieved a respectable 100 watts. However, under cloudy skies, the charging power rapidly dropped below 20 watts and collapsed entirely under dense rain clouds during the day.

Design and Processing

Bluetti EB55 Power Station Review

The Bluetti EB55, a compact power cube, impresses with its high-quality construction, although it carries a slightly heavier weight compared to other competitors in its capacity range. Despite this, both the power station and the SP200 solar module exhibit commendable design and craftsmanship.

The Bluetti EB55 stands out for its pleasing compactness, especially considering its 537 Wh power capacity. It is approximately 20 percent smaller than the Jackery Explorer 500 while offering a slightly higher capacity. The retractable handle enhances its portability, allowing for easy stacking in small camper cabinets or packed trunks. The case exudes a sense of durability and solidity; however, caution is advised as the power station lacks an IP certification for water resistance. Protective caps only cover the charging inputs and the car plug.

Included in the Bluetti EB55’s package are a relatively large power supply unit, a connection cable for the solar panel, and a charging cable for the car’s 12V cigarette lighter. Unfortunately, a bag for these accessories is not provided.

Moving on to the Bluetti SP200 solar panel, it comprises four foldable elements measuring approximately 53 by 52 centimeters, compact when folded together. When unfolded, the solar panel reaches a height of about 50 centimeters and a length of just over two meters. Encased in a robust, nylon-like fabric, the photovoltaic cells rest on the ground with small fabric flaps, providing reasonable stability at a 45-degree angle. However, caution is advised during exposure to stronger winds or at festivals, as the SP200’s survivability may be a concern. Notably, the photovoltaic module holds an IP54 rating for water protection, although the manufacturer advises against leaving it exposed to rain or snow.

Equipment and Features

Bluetti EB55 Power Station Review

The Bluetti EB55, equipped with a LiFePO4 battery, caters particularly well to users with long-term power needs. It seamlessly integrates various comfort features, including a well-executed built-in lamp and a Qi panel for convenient wireless charging on the top.

As previously mentioned, the Bluetti EB55 relies on a LiFePO4 battery, setting it apart from the common Li-Ion NMC batteries found in power stations of similar categories. The key advantage lies in its significantly extended shelf life. Bluetti specifies an impressive 2,500 charging cycles before experiencing a 20 percent capacity loss, a notable contrast to the typical 500 charging cycles with Li-Ion-NMC battery technology. For daily usage, the power station is estimated to last anywhere from two to ten years.

The EB55’s LiFePO4 battery boasts a 537 Wh capacity with a maximum output power of 700 watts for the sockets. Additionally, it features a car port (“cigarette lighter”) and two 12-volt DC ports, each with a maximum power output of 120 watts. The USB-C port supports Power Delivery up to 100 watts, while the four USB-A ports can deliver 15 watts each. The power station includes separate on/off switches for each port group, and an overvoltage protection feature activates at 1,400 watts to safeguard against excessive usage.

Monitoring the Bluetti EB55’s status, input, and output power is facilitated through its small LCD panel. While the display is satisfactory, a more precise indication of the battery capacity beyond 20 percent increments would be beneficial. At the rear of the power station, a light panel serves not only as a flashlight but also doubles as a versatile reading or dining table lamp with soft light and two brightness levels. Additionally, an SOS function is available, causing the lamp to flash in sets of three short, three long, and three short bursts for emergency signaling.
